Need an app right now? Unlock your apps

Unlock your paused apps for an hour, turn Blocked Apps off, or take a day off.

Sometimes you just need the app. That is fine, and there is no penalty for it. Blocked Apps used to be called Active Pass.

Unlock your apps for an hour

  1. Open Wakeout.

  2. Go to Settings > Advanced > Blocked Apps and tap Force Unlock Apps Now. On the home screen you may also see an Unlock button while your apps are paused.

  3. If a short note appears first, read it and continue. Your apps are then free.

Your apps stay unlocked for one hour from the moment you unlock them. Wakeout shows the time they are free until.

About the screen on a paused app

When you tap a paused app, you see a screen with Wake it up and Not now. Wake it up sends you a notification that opens Wakeout. Not now closes the screen and the app stays paused. Unlocking happens inside Wakeout, which is why the screen points you there.

Other ways to get your apps back

  • Move a little. A one-minute Wakeout, or any movement your iPhone tracks in Apple Health, brings your apps back.

  • Take a day off. Settings > Take a day off. Nothing is paused on a day off.

  • Turn it off. Switch off Block Apps When Inactive on the Blocked Apps page and your apps are unblocked right away.

Still paused after you moved?

Your phone can take a moment to pass movement to Wakeout. Open Wakeout for a moment, then try the app again. Or tap Force Unlock Apps Now, and message us in the chat if you would like a hand. We reply Monday to Friday.
